Come on ear

Nakuru, Kenya

The ear is still messed up. Tonight will be 10 days. I think its getting better, but I can't be sure. I'm really worried right now about it. If I don't have 100% hearing in a week, I'm gonna have to cancel this whole trip. It would be the shortest African motorcycle trip ever. But, its certainly not worth losing permanent hearing. WYTSDF*&%&$KHOHFY%*@WYTEWCJMBKBCDC&%$&I#!!!!!!!!!!

Its been leaking blood-wax type junk for about a week now. Of course the peace corps doctors haven't helped. They figure I COS in a week, I can get it checked out when I'm not under their watch. This wouldn't be that bad if I wasn't planning to travel Africa for the next few months. Sometimes, I have moments where I feel its getting better, but I can't be sure. Come on ear!

The bike itself seems to be doing ok now. Although I'm pretty certain its not a real KTM. I think it must have gotten bogged down somewhere in Japan or China (most likely) and thats where most of the parts came from. I went to George today to get my saddle "boxes." I obviously wasn't pleased and I think he knew it. There's no way those things are gonna last. But a real pair costs over $500, so thats out of the question, especially now that the whole trip is up in the air. Plus, George and his cronies were the ones that dropped the egine block and broke it last time, costing me 10,000 KSh. At least George had the sense not to try to charge me for the "repairs," this time.

Come back hearing! I know I'm an idiot, but I've learned my lesson!

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the
status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on yesterdays.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing in the world is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent..."

Calvin Coolidge

When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you must not quit.
